Can I extend my Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa?

extend Temporary Graduate visa

As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, the 485 visa in Australia, also known as the Temporary Graduate visa, allows international students who have recently completed an Australian qualification to work and stay in the country temporarily. The visa has two streams: the Graduate Work stream and the Post-Study Work stream.

To be eligible for a visa extension under the 485 Graduate Work stream, you must meet the following requirements:

Qualification: You must have completed a qualification in Australia that is closely related to an occupation on the skilled occupation list. The qualification should be at least a Diploma level or higher and must have been awarded by a CRICOS-registered course provider.

Skill Assessment: You need to have your skills assessed by the relevant assessing authority for your nominated occupation. The assessment should confirm that your qualification closely matches the skills and knowledge required for the occupation.

English Language Proficiency: You must meet the English language requirements by providing evidence of achieving the required scores in an accepted English language test, such as IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE Academic.

Health and Character: You must meet the health and character requirements set by the Australian government. This includes providing a medical examination and obtaining police clearances.

Visa Application: You need to lodge your visa application within six months of completing your qualification. You should also be within Australia when applying.

It’s important to note that immigration policies can change over time, so I recommend checking the official Australian immigration website or consulting with a registered migration agent for the most up-to-date information regarding eligibility criteria and visa requirements for the 485 visa extension.
